Request a Room
To qualify for a room at the Durham House:
- A family must reside 50 miles or more away from the medical facility where treatment is being received.
- The patient receiving medical treatment is 21 years or younger.
- The medical treatment is occurring in a facility where caregivers are not able to stay bedside or the treatments are on an outpatient basis.
- Be deemed appropriate for residing in a community environment, with all adults over 18 passing a background check screening.
First-Time Families:
- A referral must be completed by your child’s social worker or case manager.
To reach your child’s social worker, call Duke Social Work Office at (919) 681-4722.
- Once the referral is received, our Family Care team will verify your qualifications and contact you with additional instructions.
- Families must call the Durham House at (919) 286-9305, after 12 pm on the day of requested check-in to confirm that a room is available. The Durham House does not take reservations and is unable to guarantee room availability ahead of time.
Return Families:
- You may self-request a room at the House by filling out the Returning Guests Request Form.
- Once the request is received, the House will verify your qualifications and contact you with additional instructions.
- You must call the House after 12pm on the day you would like to check-in to confirm space is available at the House.
If a room is not available at the House, you will be offered a reduced rate (approx. $50 per night) at a local hotel.
